About Us
Wooly Wonka Fibers is a joint effort between a hopeless fiber addict (Anne) and her very patient, woodworker husband (Dave). Our online store opened its doors in 2007 and we are fortunate to be based in the beautiful Salt Lake Valley of Utah, where there is a vibrant and thriving knitting and spinning community.
Anne has been knitting since the age of 5, when her grandmother attempted to find some way to keep her squirmy self still during a long summer vacation. She has knitted on and off over the years, but really found herself addicted to the process while in college, pursuing a degree in costume history and design. Spinning was a natural progression from there. She crafts her dye colorways in her basement studio, and is always looking for the perfect alchemy of fiber and color.
Dave worked for 10 years handcrafting one-of-a-kind furniture pieces before eventually returning to school to work on his PhD. Since he spends his days hunched over a computer crunching numbers these days, he finds a creative outlet in his wooden crafts, painstakingly fashioning fine spindles and spinning tools from exotic woods. He is hopeful that the fiber storage will not take over his woodworking space in the garage, but only remains cautiously optimistic, since he has seen the size of the stash.
When not immersed in fiber, Anne and Dave can usually be found somewhere on a trail in the mountains, accompanied by their horses, seeking new paths.
